The Times hails Gate chef 'genius'
The Times hails Gate chef 'genius'
7 February 2018
Crikey, even for our chef Phil Joy it’s not every day The Times calls you a genius…
Times columnist and Gate regular Matthew Parris visited on Sunday. Having previously braved our Beef Candle he decided to try chef’s latest invention, the Lamb Doughnut.
The result was the headline item on his Wednesday ‘My Week’ comment piece titled – incredibly - ‘Genius who invented the lamb doughnut’.
Needless to say we were all completely blown away!
Parris said, ‘A big doughnut lightly sprinkled with smoked paprika sugar appeared on a plate, with a little ramekin of apricot sauce for dipping. I plunged in the knife. At its centre was a moist pocket of diced and tender lamb, mint, cream, coriander, cream cheese and chilli. It was absolutely delicious.’
Well thank you Matthew, glad you enjoyed it!
Lamb Doughnut is available on select days as a starter special at £7.95. Please call ahead on 01629 540448 to make sure it’s on for your visit, or get in touch via our contact page.
